Liberation monument was erected in 1965 in Liberty Square. The monument bears an inscription: On July 28, 1944 the valorous troops of the 1st Belorussian Front stormed the city and the fortress of Brest, completing the total liberation of the Belarusian land from the German fascist invaders.” 28 soldiers and officers were awarded the title “the Hero of the Soviet Union”. In the alley leading to the monument there are pedestals where you can see the military units and the formations that have received the name “Brest”. Brest celebrates the Day of the city on July 28.
