The Friary of St Athanasius of Brest was founded on the outskirts of Brest. it was done with the blessing of Patriarch Alexey II. The friary was built on the site of the martyrdom of St. Athanasius Filippovich, an abbot of Brest, in the village of Arcadia in 1995 (today it’s Gershon District).

Throughout its long history Brest has always been and still remains a multi-confessional city. Today there are 17 registered denominations, united into 48 religious communities here. The pilgrimage department of Brest diocesan administration has worked out the routes of visiting 26 shrines of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Italy, as well as 6 out of 22
